:: About STS - The Unique Role of STS_________________________________________________________

God has a purpose for STS. He has entrusted the seminary with some unique roles:

First, to respond to the needs of the churches in building up the believers.
The Christian population in Sabah and Sarawak is growing rapidly, and Christians constitute more than 35% of population in the 2 states. The Majority of the new believers are bumiputras whose medium of education and, therefore, common language of daily life and worship is bahasa Malaysia. In order to meet their need for trained workers, STS has become the first and thus far, the only seminary in Malaysia that uses BM as its main medium of instruction. STS carries the great responsibility of training a new generation of church leaders who are proficient in the national language.

Secondly, to respond to the need of society for leaders.
STS is a centre of theological education in which students of different race study and live under one roof. Here they learn to appreciate and accept each other’s cultures and traditions, and overcome their own prejudices. In this way the seminary helps produce leaders in social harmony and national integration

Thirdly, to respond to the national language policy by publishing theological literature in bahasa Malaysia.
Obviously, the Malay language is the undisputed common language of Malaysians. Apart from its daily use, it must be employed in theological education and publication. Unfortunately, there are hardly any theological publications in BM at this time. This means that as STS pioneers in indigenous theological education, it also has the important task of publishing theological literature in BM
